The only allergist with 40 years of experience in the field of Allergies in Kenya with a large patient base including East, Central and West Africa. Worked with cosmopolitan and local populations gaining vast wealth of knowledge of these and local tribal diets and customs relevant to the field. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) and a Full Bright Scholar (USA).
As a professor in Immunopathology she pioneered its training and research in the medical faculty, University of Nairobi in 1973 till 1989 and has authored 2 editions of an undergraduate medical textbook in Immunology/ Allergy called Immunology Simplified in 1976 and 1985 published by Oxford University Press- UK, which were translated in Spanish, Italian and Arabic. Prof. Bowry is a passionate teacher and academic who has dedicated her life to educating colleagues on her fields of speciality
Dr. Priya Bowry is a highly experienced Consultant Allergist with over a decade of dedicated service at The Allergy Clinic, Upper Hill Medical Centre since 2013 and Gertrude’s Garden Children’s Hospital since 2016. She specializes in the comprehensive diagnosis and management of a wide range of allergic disorders in both adults and children, providing tailored care for her patients.
A leader in the field of allergy medicine, Dr. Bowry has been an active Scientific Committee member and Ex-Treasurer of the Allergy Society of Kenya since 2013. Her passion for education is evident through her regular participation in postgraduate teaching, both locally and across Sub-Saharan Africa, including countries like Rwanda, Uganda, Senegal, and Zambia. She also contributes to the University of Nairobi’s continuous medical education programmes, training future healthcare professionals in allergy and immunology.
Dr. Bowry is a strong advocate for Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) awareness, working closely with Hereditary Angioedema International and HAE Kenya to provide professional training and patient education. As a member of the HAE Regional Medical Advisory Panel for Sub-Saharan Africa, she plays a critical role in advancing knowledge and treatment options for this rare condition.
In addition to her clinical and educational work, Dr. Bowry is passionate about patient education, regularly sharing her expertise through TV and newspaper interviews on platforms such as KTN, Citizen TV, and People’s Daily, ensuring that the public is well-informed about allergic disorders and their management.
