Nasal, Chest(Asthma) & Eye Allergies

Upper Airway Allergies (Allergic Rhinitis) & Sinusitis

Upper Airway Allergies affect the nasal passages, sinuses and throat, commonly presenting as symptoms like sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and itching of nose, ears and throat. Some patients even get recurrent headaches. Throat clearing and post nasal drip can occur as well.

These allergies are often triggered by dust mites, mold, cockroaches, pollen or pet dander and foods. They can lead to conditions such as allergic rhinitis, which can significantly impact daily comfort and overall quality of life. Proper management includes identifying allergens, allergen avoidance using measures taught by your allergist and using medications or other treatments to alleviate symptoms. Indicators include:

Lower Airway Allergies

Lower Airway Allergies involve the respiratory tract below the nasal passages, including the bronchi and lungs. Symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. These allergies are frequently associated with asthma and can be triggered by similar allergens as upper airway allergies or specific irritants. Effective management often requires a combination of inhaled medications, avoiding triggers, and monitoring respiratory health.

Asthma

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that causes periodic breathing difficulties. Asthma symptoms include wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing, which can be exacerbated by allergens like dust mites, moulds, cockroach, pollen and pets, as well as foods.

Eye Allergies

Conjuctivitis

Eye Allergies (Allergic Conjunctivitis) cause redness, itching, and watery eyes. These reactions can occur with allergens like dust, mould, cockroach, pollen, or pet dander or foods. Eye allergies can be particularly bothersome and may affect daily activities. . Untreated eye allergies can become severe and affect vision, therefore must be managed appropriately. Treatment typically involves avoiding allergens by implementing strategies to reduce exposure and using antihistamine or short term steroid eye drops.
