Stings & Anaphylaxis

Insect sting allergies can cause severe reactions in some individuals, ranging from mild swelling and itching to life-threatening conditions like anaphylaxis. Common culprits include bees, wasps, hornets, and fire ants. For those with severe allergies, even a single sting can trigger anaphylaxis—a rapid, systemic reaction that can cause difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, swelling of the throat, and loss of consciousness. Immediate medical attention is critical, as anaphylaxis can be fatal without prompt treatment.

At The Allergy Clinic, we specialize in diagnosing insect sting allergies and providing life-saving interventions. We offer allergy testing to identify specific sensitivities, along with emergency treatment plans, including epinephrine prescriptions and training on how to use them. In some cases, allergen-specific immunotherapy (desensitization) can help reduce the severity of allergic reactions over time, offering long-term protection.

Anaphylaxis

Allergic reactions can vary from mild to severe, life threatening reactions. These life threatening reactions are known as Anaphylaxis(epinephrine). This is a medical emergency and needs prompt attention in hospital and self-management with adrenaline autoinjectors in the interim. a rapid, systemic reaction that can cause difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, swelling of the throat, and loss of consciousness.
